The Beauty Therapy Course is an intensive practical and theoretical two year programme, with an optional third year. A diploma is only awarded on the completion of the two years. The first year training course provides the learner with an in-depth understanding of the primary theoretical and practical aspects of skin and beauty care therapies.

 

The First Year:

Course Objectives

The first year training course provides the learner with and in-depth understanding of the primary theoretical and practical aspects of beauty & skincare therapies. On completion of the first year, learners will be able to perform full skincare therapies, utilize the latest electrical apparatus, apply make-up suitable for all occasions, perform manicures, pedicures and waxing techniques - so as to complete the full compliment of treatments required from Health and Skincare Industry.

 

The first year syllabus includes:

  • Anatomy and Physiology 1

  • Applied Dermatology 1

  • Health and Skincare Therapy - Practical

  • Theory Lash and Brow Tinting

  • Eyelash Perming

  • Electrotherapy

  • Manicure

  • Pedicure

  • Temporary hair removal (Depilation)

  • Glamorous photographic make-up

  • Make-up

  • Applied Chemistry and Physics

  • Business Administration

  • Hygiene and Sterilization

  • Bacteriology

  • Speech Communication

  • Nutrition

  • First Aid

Entry Requirements:

Matric NQF level 4, A Prl can be arranged for learners without the specified requirements

 

Duration:

1 year full time Monday - Friday (9am - 1pm). Compulsory supervised case studies are completed at the college during the afternoons. College closes at 4pm. A deposit is required on registration which will secure the learners place in the college. The remaining fee can be paid on a monthly basis over ten months from the end of January to the end of October. The kit, text book and uniform fee is to be paid in full before the first day of college.

 

The Second Year

Course Objective:

The second year diploma is an extension and development for the first year programme. This forms a natural progression where the learner will be exposed to the dealing with the therapeutic requirements of the clients that need more complex therapies. Sales, marketing and practical clinic experience is an important aspect, which the learner gains during this year. This will create more job opportunities and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

The second year syllabus includes:

  • Advanced Health and skincare Therapy 11 (Theory and Practical)

  • Advanced Body Therapy

  • Advanced Electrotherapy

  • Swedish and Relax Body Massage

  • Business Thesis

  • First Aid

  • Diet and Nutrition 11

Electives:

  • Physical Education

  • Indian Head Massage

  • Sales and Marketing

  • Hot Stone Massage Therapy

  • Socio-Psychology

  • Cosmetology

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

  • Aromatherapy

  • Reflexology

The above subjects constitute the major subjects covered within the academic year. A number of complimentary topics and current advancement are also encompassed with our unique syllabus. Additional subjects may be studied on an individual basis.

The Third Year

Course Objective:

This is a specialised year. The learners have the opportunity to complete subjects on an ITEC level which are seen as individual qualifications and not integrated into the first or second year qualification. We are now also offering the prestigious ITEC Honours Diploma. The College also offers CIDESCO post graduate Spa, Aromatherapy and Electrical epilation diplomas staying on top of current progression in the Health and Skin Care Industry we align the program to address this need. It will prove to be of great value to learners wanting to enter specialised fields such as working at Medical Spas or assisting Plastic Surgeons which has become a growing trend, or managing and running spas. Interested learners may also apply for the train the trainer, assessors and moderators programme which can be covered in the year.

  • African Massage Courses (Bamboo, Rungu, Calabash)

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

  • Hydro-therapy treatments including colour and infra-red light therapy, vichy shower, kniepp therapy viibratory massage, scotch showers, jet therapy and Jacuzzi (Dermalife capsule)

  • Advanced Body therapy (wraps, exfoliation, seaweed, cryo therapy, mud and macerated herb treatments)

 

  • Sauna Heat Therapy

  • Oxygen Steam Therapy

  • Soy Body Candle Treatments

  • Hot Stone Therapy

  • Auricular Therapy

  • Clinical Camouflage Make-up Techniques

  • Iridology

  • Nail Technology

  • Advanced Aromatherapy including chemical compounds and composition

College closes at 4 p.m. A deposit is required on registration which will secure the learners place in the college. The remaining fees can be paid on a monthly basis over ten months from January to the end of October. The kit, text book and uniform is included in this fee.
